Short Courses
As Head of Instructional Design for Yellowbrick, an edtech company, I developed asynchronous, fully online courses in partnership with leading universities and media partners like Rolling Stone, Complex Media, Parsons, and NYU. Yellowbrick courses end in non-credit certificates from our university partners and open career paths for creatives by orienting them within industries including fashion, sports, beauty, music, and media.
What was my role?
I was in charge of designing the majority of the courses from concept to launch and leading the Instructional Design team. At Yellowbrick, Head of Instructional Design also doubled as the de facto content designer and manager and product developer My responsibilities for the courses in our catalog included:

Using market research and focus group input to determine user and partner needs and establish project scope and outline
Partnership management and triangulating the educational and commercial goals of Yellowbrick and our university and media partners
Establishing course architecture based on research discovery and leading pre-production, co-creation, and production processes
Curriculum and syllabus creation
Producing educational content and managing university faculty and industry SMEs in creating additional materials
Developing an interview plan and interviewing faculty and SMEs to generate course video content
Organizing and editing interview content into course modules
Writing basic assessments (knowledge check quizzes; grammar, spelling and punctuation tests; observation and retention exercises; etc.) as well as researching and creating supplementary materials
Creating capstone projects and supporting project-based activity sequences
Collaborating with video editors, making B-roll decisions, reviewing and approving all media work, etc.
Building course in LMS (Wordpress’ Learndash LMS)

A brief selection of courses I created in my tenure at Yellowbrick:
Modern Journalism
I helped Yellowbrick and Rolling Stone build on the success of NYU Journalism’s American Journalism Online Master’s Program by designing a robust course that introduces students to the industry practices and basic skills needed to produce news stories across audio, visual, and digital mediums
Film & TV Industry Essentials
In conjunction with the industry-leading Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, Rolling Stone, and Indiewire, I created a course designed to explore all areas of the film and television industry and help students learn the industry and map out their career.
Streetwear Essentials
Streetwear culture powerhouse Complex Media and Parsons School of Design joined with Yellowbrick to help students explore the streetwear industry, discover related careers, and build design and entrepreneurial skills.
